TOPIC: MODERN TEACHING TECHNIQUES

INTRODUCTION
Teaching to an ordinary mind is probably to standing before a class and give an instruction to the
students and pupils about a particular subject of learning. A person is seen as a teacher after
being educated at a teacher’s training institute or having some qualifications or credentials that
permit him or her to help others to acquire knowledge, competences or values.

PURPOSE OF THIS LECTURE
The purpose of this lecture is to have a brief discussion about how the art of teaching and
imparting knowledge to students at this present time could be fruitful by employing the various
teaching and studying methodologies available to us as against the standard and traditional
teaching techniques.
The desired purpose of these lectures is to know what the word "Teaching" connotes and to also
understand the following:
i. what the concept “Modern” is.
ii. Identifying the types of Teaching Techniques available to us
iii. How the modern teaching techniques would enhanced our teaching prowess and
dexterity.

The word “Modern” is word that connote something or a concept relating to the present or recent
times or a departure from traditional styles or values
1. Modern Teaching techniques can be defined as the updated methods and techniques for
imparting updated and latest academic knowhow to students.

2. Modern methodology or techniques is much more student-centred. According to Jim
Scrivener, the teacher’s main role is to “help learning to happen, “which includes “involving”
students in what is going on “by enabling them to work at their own speed, by not giving long
explanations, by encouraging them to participate, talk, interact, do things, etc.” (Scrivener 18,
19).

3. Modern Teaching Techniques uses a great deal of pair work and individual work, as well as
the use of visual aids and information technology such as computers, the internet etc.
The role of a Teacher in a modern educational circle is not only to explain the subjects to the
students but to encourage and help students to explore, try out, make learning interesting,

MODERN TEACHING TECHNIQUES MODELS
A number of different teaching techniques have emerged due to this change in education. Many of
these teaching techniques are not actually new however! The use of technology in the classroom
has simply given education a new lease of life allowing us to approach old ideas in new ways.
Outlined below are some popular teaching techniques that have arisen from the integration of
technology in education.
Modern Teaching Techniques
1. Flipped Classroom (Inverting your class):
The Flipped Classroom Model basically involves encouraging students to prepare for the lesson
before class. Thus, the class becomes a dynamic environment in which students elaborate on what
they have already studied. Students prepare a topic at home so that the class the next day can be
devoted to answering any questions they have about the topic. This allows students to go beyond
their normal boundaries and explore their natural curiosity...

2. Design Thinking/Case Method:
This technique is based on resolving real-life cases through group analysis, brainstorming,
innovation and creative ideas. Although “Design Thinking” is a structured method, in practice it
can be quite messy as some cases may have no possible solution.
However, the Case Method prepares students for the real world and arouses their curiosity,
analytical skills and creativity. This technique is often used in popular MBA or Masters Classes to
analyze real cases experienced by companies in the past.

3. Self-learning:
Curiosity is the main driver of learning. As a basic principle of learning, it makes little sense to
force students to memorize large reams of text that they will either begrudgingly recall or instantly
forget. The key is to let students focus on exploring an area which interests them and learn about
it for themselves.
A common technique for exploring self-learning is the use of Mind Maps. Teachers can create a
central node on a Mind Map and allow students the freedom to expand and develop ideas. For
example, if the focus is the Human Body, some students may create Mind Maps on the organs,
Bones or Diseases that affect the human body. Later the students would be evaluated according to
the Mind Maps they have created and could collaborate with each other to improve each other’s
Mind Maps and come to a more comprehensive understanding of the Human Body.

4. Gamification:
Learning through the use of games is one of the teaching methods that has already been explored
especially in elementary and preschool education. By using games, students learn without even
realizing. Therefore, learning through play or ‘Gamification‘ is a learning technique that can be
very effective at any age. It is also a very useful technique to keep students motivated.
Students can challenge their peers to test themselves and see who gets a higher score. In this way,
students can enjoy the competition with peers while also having fun and learning. E.g.: is who
wants to be millionaire,

5. Social Media:
A variant of the previous section is to utilize social media in the classroom. Students today are
always connected to their social network and so will need little motivation to get them engaged
with social media in the classroom. The ways you can use teaching methods are quite varied as
there are hundreds of social networks and possibilities.

6. Free Online Learning Tools:
There is an array of free online learning tools available which teachers can use to encourage
engagement, participation and a sense of fun into the classroom. Teachers can create an interactive
and dynamic classroom environment using, for example, online quizzes to test student’s
knowledge. E.g.: courser, Alison, edx etc.
As you can see, technology has created many teaching techniques that can help you connect better
with your students.

7. Class and Group Presentation:
Giving a topic to a group of students or as an individual for research and presentation the following
day, this techniques gives the student a confidence to stand before the class, discovers his or her
passion for self-studies and research.

CONCLUSION
whatever model and techniques of teaching an institutions or teachers adopt, the primary target
must be the student’s knowledge acquisition.it is imperatives that no model of teaching can be
discarded or alienated from each other’s as all forms of tech

THE HOLY SPIRIT AND FELLOWSHIP  TEXT{S}: Acts 2:41-47, Romans 15:1-32, Philippians 2:1-5,1st Cor 1:9-13, 1st John 1:3-7 M/VERSE: Acts 2:42“And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers” INTRODUCTION  Fellowship is one of the essential and necessary parts of every religious activity and practice; for it enhances the relationship of the adherent of such religion among themselves, and Christian believers are encouraged strongly to have fellowship with each others as well: 1st John 1:3-4. The need for building common love, mind, doctrine, ideas and goals among particular religious sects requires coming together which is maybe referred to as fellowship. The concept of having fellowship with each other may not be alien to any religion but the main reason why it serves as the bedrock upon which every religious sect is described and identifies is passively ignored. The purpose of this study is to know the meani
